Back by Popular Demand: RWA Helping Customers Harvest the Rain

The Regional Water Authority (RWA) is offering rain barrels to Connecticut residents looking for an environmentally friendly way to reduce their water use while still keeping their gardens growing and lawns green. The RWA sold out of the very popular rain barrels earlier this summer, and is launching this second sale for customers who missed out on their chance to get a rain barrel in June.

More Sophisticated Water Metering Coming to 13,000 West Haven Customers

Water delivery and metering in West Haven is about to get more sophisticated, according to the water company. About 13,000 South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority customers in West Haven are about to get the water industry’s latest metering technology installed beginning next month, the RWA said in a news release. The West Haven customers will join about 50,000 customers in the RWA’s water district who already have received the upgrade.

The grounds of the Ansonia Armory are in the midst of a much-needed makeover. The first phase of the facelift outside the sprawling Armory on State Street was celebrated by local and state officials, along with area businesses, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday.

RWA Trains Cheshire Volunteers to Study the Mill River

Volunteers will be looking for signs of road runoff, human intervention and water contamination in the Mill River over the coming weeks as part of a river health study. Teams of volunteers with the Cheshire Land Trust will access the river through public land and, where permitted, from private property. Training provided by a water quality specialist with the Regional Water Authority is scheduled for this Saturday.

RWA Invests In Trifecta Ecosystems To Fuel Sustainable Food Production And Economic Growth In Connecticut

The RWA announced an investment to bring innovative, sustainable farming and new economic growth to the Greater New Haven region. The RWA will provide an investment to Meriden-based Trifecta Ecosystems, allowing them to establish a regional aquaponics program in the Greater New Haven Region. Aquaponics systems combine aquaculture - the raising of aquatic animals such as fish - with hydroponics - the growing of plants in water - in symbiotic, climate controlled environments. These efficient, compact farms are designed to ensure that families living in cities and other population centers have access to fresh, affordable, and healthy produce.

RWA Discourages Customers From Opening Fire Hydrants

The Regional Water Authority and WFSB – Channel 3 News are encouraging Connecticut residents to keep cool during the ongoing heat wave, but not by opening fire hydrants. Illegally opened fire hydrants can be dangerous to anyone hit by the water, can lower water pressure needed by firefighters, and can temporarily discolor the water in the surrounding neighborhood.
