Whether you are joining our community or moving on to a new home, we are here to help you start or stop your water service. The RWA is proud to provide high-quality tap water to the communities of Ansonia, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Hamden, Milford, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Seymour, West Haven, Wolcott and Woodbridge. If you are a homeowner, lessor or renter in one of these communities, or an attorney working on a real estate closing, this page will provide the information you need to start or stop RWA water service.
If you are purchasing or selling a new home in one of the communities served by the RWA, please have the closing attorney complete and submit our online Property Closing Statement Request form. This form must be submitted by an attorney at least 10 days prior to a property closing.
Upon receiving your completed form, the RWA will prepare and fax the final water bill for the seller to the attorney's fax number. The bottom portion of the final bill should be returned with the seller's payment. In the event that the closing date is changed or cancelled, please notify the RWA immediately to avoid any billing errors.
Depending on the language of an individual lease agreement, landlords of single-family residential properties may retain responsibility for the water bill or it may be placed in the tenant’s name. Landlords must retain responsibility for the water bill if the dwelling receives water through a single service line, or if a multi-family dwelling has only one meter.
In order for water service to be in a tenant’s name, the tenant must sign a lease agreement for at least a six-month period. Tenants seeking to put water service in their name should complete the RWA's Landlord/Tenant Responsibility form and send it to the RWA using the instructions on the form.
Tenants responsible for their water bill must contact the RWA upon moving out of a rented or leased property. We will then place the account back in the landlord’s name, unless we have been instructed by the landlord to stop the service.
If your property has existing service and you are requesting an ownership name change or a meter re-set, please contact a Customer Care Representative at 203-562-4020.
We are proud to provide you with high-quality, reliable drinking water supply. As an environmental services company driven by our higher purpose to make life better for people, we provide innovative services beyond the tap. Learn more by reading our new customer welcome booklet.
PipeSafe Protection Programs
The RWA's PipeSafe protections programs can help you avoid unexpected, costly repairs to your underground water, sewer and septic lines, and in-home plumbing. These programs, available for a nominal fee, offer the peace of mind that comes with knowing that you are covered for repair costs and the hassle of finding qualified contractors.
Claire C. Bennitt Recreation Program
No matter where you call home, it isn't far from one of the RWA's nine recreation areas, which offer great water views and four seasons of fun. As a member of the RWA's Recreation Program, you can enjoy miles of well-kept trails through a wilderness that is just minutes from where you live. We provide easy-to-read trail maps and offer special family events such as nature walks and fishing derbies.
Safe Disposal of Household Hazardous Waste
Buying a new home can be a messy process. If you find you find yourself with paints, pesticides, cleaning products or oils, we can help you dispose of them in a safe, environmentally friendly way through the RWA's HazWaste Central. This program runs from May to mid-October, and offers free disposal of household hazardous waste products to residents of member communities.
